چکیده

Aims Bone defects caused by bone loss due to trauma or tumours are common, with grafting of transplanted tissue currently as the gold standard for bone replacement. However, there are many issues inherent with autograft, including donor site morbidity, supply of tissue and infection [1]. In order to overcome these drawbacks, a diverse array of synthetic biomaterials is under development [2]. Calcium phosphate cements (CPC) are a group of injectable calcium phosphates [3]. CPCs are particularly advantageous due to their low setting temperature and ease of administration by syringe, which allow for minimally invasive surgery. Their physiological setting temperature also makes them convenient carriers for drugs such as bone morphogenetic protein 2 (BMP-2) [4], which some surgeons use routinely during surgery for its ability to promote differentiation of mesenchymal stem cells to osteoblasts. Our aim was to develop an easy-to-handle alloplastic material with osteoinductive properties, accelerating bone ingrowth by stimulating osteogenic differentiation.

Injectable calcium phosphate cement and fibrin sealant recombined human bone morphogenetic protein-2 composite in vertebroplasty: an animal study.

Polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) is currently the most commonly-used material, but it may induce adjacent vertebral fracture due to low degradation and high strength. Our study evaluated the feasibility of injectable calcium phosphate cement (ICPC) and fibrin sealant (FS) as an injectable compound carrier of human bone morphogenetic protein-2 (rhBMP-2) in New Zealand rabbits for vertebroplasty. Re...

Effect of modified compound calcium phosphate cement on the differentiation and osteogenesis of bone mesenchymal stem cells

BACKGROUND The aim of this study is to evaluate the effect of self-invented compound calcium phosphate cement upon the proliferation and osteogenesis of bone mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs). METHODS Four groups including traditional calcium phosphate cement, modified calcium phosphate cement, modified calcium phosphate cement plus bone morphogenetic protein (BMP), and control groups were estab...

Investigation of Macroporous Calcium Phosphate Cement Obtained by Foamed Gelatin Polymer

This study deals with the effect of gelatin on physical and mechanical properties of  calcium phosphate bone cements. The mixture of tetracalcium phosphate (TTCP) and dicalcium phosphate (DCPA) as the cement powder was mixed with 6 wt% Na2HPO4 solution containing different amount (0, 2, 5 and 8% in w/w) of foamed gelatin as liquid phase. The physical properties were determined in the terms of s...

Effect of Graphene Oxide Nanoparticles Addition on Mechanical and Biological Properties of Calcium Phosphate Cement

In the present study, we have evaluated the effects of graphene oxide (GO) addition on the physical-mechanical-biological properties of calcium phosphate cement (CPC). The in vitro cellular responses of MG63 and in vivo tissue responses after the implantation of CPC/GO in parietal bone defects of   wistar rats were also investigated. The brushite calcium phosphate cements were prepared by mixi...

A Review Paper on Biomimetic Calcium Phosphate Coatings

Biomimetic calcium phosphate coatings have been developed for bone regeneration and repair because of their biocompatibility, osteoconductivity, and easy preparation. They can be rendered osteoinductive by incorporating an osteogenic agent, such as bone morphogenetic protein 2 (BMP-2), into the crystalline lattice work in physiological situations. The biomimetic calcium phosphate coating enable...
